Abstract

Echinococcosis (hydatid disease) is caused by the adult tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus vogeli or Echinococcus multilocularis.

Echinococcosis is a clinical entity endemic in cattle-raising areas world-wide. It is still an important health problem. As a result of the disease unilocular or multilocular often large size cysts develop in different body sites, but more often in liver and lungs. The disease progresses very slowly. The clinical diagnosis is difficult. The best treatment is surgery.
