Abstract

Development of the radiological picture archiving and communication system (PACS) in Estonia is under dicussion. In 2006 approximately 1/3 of 900 000 radiological investigations made in Estonia are digitally stored. Common shared archive in two regional hospitals is under construction and  will serve as the nation-wide PACS. Integration of different medical information subsystems and archives is unsufficient. Available medical technology and software is not ready to fulfill the needs of legislation for protection of sensitive medical data.
