Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated skin disease affecting the entire body. Patients with psoriasis often have comorbid conditions
and reportedly have an increased risk of cancer compared to the general population. Although the risk is particularly elevated for keratinocyte carcinomas, the association between psoriasis and cutaneous melanoma remains unclear, as research findings have been inconsistent. Potential links between psoriasis and melanoma may stem from chronic inflammation, genetic predisposition, and certain treatment modalities, such as photochemotherapy and systemic therapies. Additionally, lifestyle factors like smoking and excessive sun exposure may further increase the risk of skin malignancies. This article presents the case of a 53-yearold female patient with psoriasis who was later diagnosed with melanoma. The case highlights the importance of long-term monitoring, mole mapping, and regular dermatological examinations in psoriasis patients for the early detection of melanoma.
