Abstract

Patients with diabetes mellitus have an increased risk of various organ damages. The current paper gives a brief overview of the more common chronic complications of diabetes. The complications are classified into  atherosclerosis related and diabetes specific subgroups. Management of diabetes should include systematic testing for complications on a yearly basis. The principles of the testing and treating of diabetic complications are presented.
