Abstract

A selected overview is presented of conceptual and neuroscientific issues in current consciousness studies. At first, different possibilities to define consciousness and the meaning of the issue of consciousness are given from different prospectives. Since 1990s, the study of consciousness is again clearly open to scientific approach and a short tour through most important conceptual and empirical issues of the problem has been taken during the last five decades to show some contextual background for modern consciousness studies. The issue of the neural correlates of consciousness (NCC) has deserved special attention and several existing theoretical and empirical questions and solutions for the NCC are presented.
