In 85% of cases vertigo attacks are caused by disturbances in the inner ear \u2013 <i>bening paroxysmel positional vertigo <\/i>(BPPV) or in the vestibular nerve (vestibular neuritis), or by M\u00e9ni\u00e8re disease. Only 15% of vertigo cases are associated with central nervous system\u00a0 disorders. Vertigo often takes a favourable natural course \u2013 periferal vestibular function improves, due to central compensation. Most forms of vertigo can be successfully treated \u2013 by physiotherapy \u2013 vestibular excercises \u2013 liberatory manoeuvres and by medical treatment.
