Unfortunately, this class of antihypertensive drugs is still the least used in clinical practice in Estonia.<br \/>\n<b>Aim: <\/b>To assess the efficacy and tolerability of telmisartan in patients with essential hypertension living in Estonia.<br \/>\n<b>Material and methods: <\/b>Thirty-six patients with arterial hypertension underwent office and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure measurements before treatment and after four weeks of treatment with candesartan; average dosage was 14.4\u00b14.2 mg.<br \/>\n<b>Results: <\/b>A good, very good and satisfactory antihypertensive effect was observed in 80.6% of the patients. According to the data of office blood pressure measurements, mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly, by 12.7 mmHg and 8.0 mmHg, respectively; p&lt;0.05. According to the data of ambulatory blood pressure measurements, systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased on average by 11.8 mmHg and 7.7 mmHg, respectively; p&lt;0.05. Four patients had nonsignificant side effects.<br \/>\n<b>Conclusion: <\/b>Candesartan is a highly efficient antihypertensive drug for treatment of patients with mild to moderate arterial hypertension.
