Abstract

The current paper discusses the history of specialisation in internal medicine, and characteristic features of integration and desintegration among the subspecialities of internal medicine. The discrepancies in defining the needs  for residents in different subspecialties are presented. A proposal has been made to increase the share of general internal medicine in the rotation plans of residents in all subspecialty plans.
