Abstract

Dry skin, also known as xerosis, is a common problem that is usually an accompanying symptom. It is very important to obtain a thorough medical history, where the focus should be on the primary disease, but also on aggravating factors. Regular base therapy is the cornerstone for the treatment of dry skin. Dermocosmetic agents with hydrating, lipid regenerative, protective, skin calming and itching alleviating properties are used. While washing, proper products should be used: mild, lipid-layer regenerating, non-alkaline products like bath oils. It is recommended to avoid clothes made of wool and friction on the skin; also one should pay attention to proper diet, and keep room temperature optimal; and if possible, limit stress.
