Abstract

The review focuses on the diagnostics and treatment of Helicobacter pylori (HP) infections in severe cases considering the principles of infectious diseases. It follows a previous article of H­I Maaroos on the necessity and possibilities of determination of the antibiotic profile of HP in Estonia. This review analyses the pathogenetic factors of HP infections, some of them previously tested at the University of Tartu, as well as the antibiotic susceptiblity of local pathogens. In case of treatment failure according to the Maastricht consensus report, we suggest molecular estimation of the antibiotic susceptibility profile of HP and application of probiotics for prevention of the side effects of antibiotic treatment.
