Abstract
Through the years, indications for orthodontic treatment have been changed. Today beside various occlusal situations, there exist also aesthetical and psychological indications. Thereby it is important to know the patient’s psychological background and his or her feelings about teeth. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is an association between the professional’s opinion and the child’s feelings about teeth. A total of 124 children completed questionnaire in the dentist’s office before they started orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontists seem to give a more critical opinion about malocclusion and the need for treatment. There was found a weak correlation between the child’s satisfaction with his/her teeth and the orthodontist’s opinion about occlusion.
