Abstract

Nowadays, cancer is one of the most frequent health problems in developed societies. Because of this, increasingly more oncogenetic consultations are carried out each year by medical geneticists. To fulfil the need, novel methodologies and options have been introduced in the field. This article aims to give an overview of the possibilities of oncogenetic testing in Tartu University Hospital`s Department of Clinical Genetics. It also deals with topics like referral to consultations, tactics and methods depending on the tumour type, and the potential benefit to the patient and his or her family members from the societal point of view.
