Abstract

Summarizing the experience with the use of vertebroplasty in patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures the author concludes the following: vertebroplasty is an effective method for fast relief of pain in these patients. According to literature data and to the experience of the North Estonian Medical Centre, osteoporotic vertebral fractures are under diagnosed and under treated medical conditions globally. There is no evidence supporting the development of additional vertebral fractures after vertebroplasty. In North Estonian Medical Centre 103 vertebroplasties were performed in 2003 – 2012 among which a marked reduction of symptoms was reported in 97 cases.
