Abstract

The person-centred approach differs from the traditional paternalistic approach, as in the case of person-centeredness, the patient’s personhood, decision-making power and individualized care are all considered. Person-centredness also includes a data set collected digitally outside the visit, which is a form of digital phenotyping, collected actively and passively. Some of these collected markers objectively reflect the subjective experience of daily life events. Smartphones have multiple ways for collecting data and thousands of studies on mobile health interventions have been carried out. Accumulating evidence indicates that people suffering from mental health conditions are interested in technology and willing to use it as part of their care. In the future, involvement of end users in the conception, design and testing of apps is another potential solution enabling engagement with apps. Security and safety are regulated and have a great potential with the widespread adoption of digital tools.
