Abstract

Pulmonary hypertension is a progressive cardiopulmonary disease characterized by increased pulmonary arterial pressure and vascular resistance, potentially leading to right ventricular overload and heart failure. Pregnancy increases blood volume and cardiac output while reducing systemic vascular resistance, adding strain on the heart and worsening the disease. Historically, maternal mortality was high, but advances in diagnosis, targeted therapy, and multidisciplinary care have improved maternal and foetal outcomes. Nevertheless, pregnancyassociated pulmonary hypertension remains linked to significant maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Therefore, it is important to counsel women of reproductive age on effective contraception and the risks associated with pregnancy. If a patient decides to continue with pregnancy, careful multidisciplinary monitoring is essential.
