Abstract

Treatment of postoperative pain has improved in recent yearsowing to development of new analgesic drugs and techniques, and owing to increased attention from professional healthcare providers. The combination of different analgesics and techniques is essential in balanced multimodal analgesia. Blocking the afferent neural stimulus by various neural block techniques(epidural, subarachnoid, plexus of nerves, peripheral nerve, wound) with local anaesthetics and opioids is very effective in reducing postoperative pain. Effective postoperative pain relief is a prerequisite for attaining better postoperative outcome.
