Abstract

Nowadays we talk about the global epidemic of overweight and obesity, which may increase the risk of many health problems. Still, several lately published studies have demonstrated that the lowest mortality occurs among people classified as overweight according to the body mass index. The goal of the current paper was to present the results of recent studies analysing the relationship between body mass index and mortality in different population groups and to discuss the conclusions that can be drawn in light of this knowledge.
