Abstract
In the year 2002 cervical cancer occupied the second place among gynecological cancers in the world. Increasingly more younger women are infected (the incidence has increased in their age group). In the case of cervical cancer it is possible to use screening and thus to reduce the risk for developing this type cancer.
In 2003 a pilot project on early detection of cervical cancer was launched in Estonia. The goal of the project was the diagnosis and treatment of intraepithelial neoplasia on the basis of a study group. The efficacy of the project has to be enhanced, while it is also important to increase the rate of participation in the programme, to compile a screening register and to increase the motivation of employees.
