Abstract

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes nonalcoholic fatty liver and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Hepatic fibrosis is the most significant determinant of liverrelated mortality, patients with advanced fibrosis are at risk for developing complications of end-stage liver disease.

The best validated non-invasive fibrosis serum markers are NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) and Fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4). The best validated non-invasive steatosis score is Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI).

A retrospective study for 2015-2019 with 145 NAFLD patients at the Department of Gastroenterology, Tartu University Hospital, was conducted.

Fibrosis scores, such as NFS and FIB-4 score, should be useful in everyday practice. Non-invasive score HSI score is a simple screening tool for NAFLD that may be utilized for selecting further investigations and for determining the need for lifestyle modifications.
