Abstract

The article discusses trends in the incidence of gastrointestinal infections and the factors influencing them in 1981–2000. Official surveillance data as well as the interview data of 1987 residents and 171 primary health care practitioners have been used.  Data analysis revealed that the decrease in the incidence was not only the result of response activity. Some changes have also taken place in the regulation of the diagnostics of gastrointestinal infections.
