The article gives an overview of the spread of Escherichia coli infection in Estonia. The clinical expressions of diarrhoeal escheriosis are gastroenteritis or enterocolitis. Dangerous are diarrhoeal diseases caused by enterohaemorragic E. coli accounting for 5–10% of mortality in the case of severe complications.
