Abstract

Immunization against pertussis was implemented in Estonia half a century ago. This has resulted in a periodical decrease in pertussis incidence, however, unlike the other vaccine-preventable diseases, the decrease has been unstable. During recent decades the incidence of the disease has been higher. Further research is needed to find out the real reasons for the changed epidemiological trends of pertussis.
